USGI Level 5 Soft Shell Cold Weather Jacket, Multicam

Description

This is a level 5 cold weather jacket that was used in the US Army Extreme Cold Weather Clothing System (ECWCS). The jacket is wind and water resistant and is worn as an outer layer over other insulating layers such as the Army Level 3 fleece jacket or the Level 2 grid fleece shirt. The jacket zips up and has a stow away hood in the collar. The shoulders have pockets and there are zippered vents along the sleeves as well. These are ready to go lightweight jackets for cold and windy days.

• Stow Away Hood – There is a stow away hood in the jackets collar for inclement weather.
• Hood With Adjustable Drawstring – This item has a hood with an adjustable drawstring.
• Two Way Zipper – Zipper includes two pulls allowing the user to open and close the zipper at different areas.
• Zipper Storm Flap – This jacket has a storm flap for covering the zipper in inclement weather. Storm flaps help insure water and wind are not able to pass through the zipper.
• Chest Pockets – Has pockets on the front of the chest.
• Zippered Shoulder Pockets – Pockets on shoulders for storing small items with zippered closure.
• IR Tabs – Includes IR tabs which help in identifying people and objects at night under night vision.
• Adjustable Sleeve Cuffs – Sleeves have either a button or hook and loop adjustable cuff for fit and wear.
• Jacket Drawstring – This jacket has a drawstring at the waist that can be tightened or loosened. This helps the wear regulate the warmth and comfort of the jacket.
• Wind Resistant – This is wind resistant which means that it helps break the wind and keep the wearer warmer.
• Water Resistant – It can be exposed to water for a short period of time without being damaged or saturated with water. Generally not recommended to submerge Water Resistant items unless item is made for that level of exposure.
• Multicam – Originally design in the early 2000’s as a competitor to UCP, Multicam was passed over after the selection of UCP. Even with UCP being adopted the camo would still see widespread use by special operations forces across the US Military in Iraq and Afghanistan. As UCP was found to not be suitable and replacements were searched for Multicam was selected as the interim camo for use by deploying US Army Soldiers. The camo would not be issued in full scale within the US Military. With its selection for use in Afghanistan it was known as OEF Pattern. Garrison uniforms in Multicam were never made, with all Multicam uniforms issued in the US Army being fire resistant. Multicam was replaced by OCP, when it became the standard camo pattern for the US Army in 2015. Due to the similarity of Multicam and OCP the gear and equipment in those patterns, not uniforms, are commonly intermixed until widespread issue of OCP was completed.
