Description
This is a Chinese style AK 47 chest rig. The cloth chest rig can hold up to three AK mags in its main pockets and has four smaller pockets as well. The smaller side pockets can fit small items like grenades, first aid kits, and compasses. Pockets are secured closed with a loop and toggle. This is secure, easy to repair and quiet. The chest rig is worn with adjustable straps over the shoulders and the waist is secured by simply tying it behind the back. This rig is commonly used as a base to work off of and modernize, or for a retro kit that fits AK mags and AR mags. Overall, this is a great chest rig to get you started with the bare essentials, to modify to fit your needs exactly, or just as a cool piece of history to have in your collection.

This review is for this style of rig, not this specific brand: I ran one of these in a carbine class I took and it was super comfortable, super simple and super useful. USGI mags sit a little deep but if you use ranger plates or Magpul mag-assist loops you’ll be very pleased. I used the grenade pockets for a couple of boxes of ammo (fits 20 rd square boxes great), and loose rounds. My only issue was with the toggles -on the brand I have-. They don’t really keep the flap closed well if it’s not tight over the pocket. Nothing ever jumped out, though. It doesn’t look very tactical but it is very practical, and many times keeping it simple is good.

I bought this looking to get my first chest rig and a lot of surplus chicom chest rigs I’ve read come with mold typically because the canvas material attracts moisture so easily. This one was so clean I thought it had to be a repro. One 1×1 brown spot that I’ll be able to clean up on one of the mag cells. For $23 you can’t go wrong here whatsoever.
