Description
This is a US Army 101st Airborne Division patch with attached tab. This is a post WWII type 10 full color patch. Originally established in 1918 as the 101st Division, it wasn’t until 1942 that the 101st was constituted as an airborne unit. The 101st is most well known for their actions throughout Europe during WWII. One well known story of the 101st comes from December 1944 during the Battle of the Bulge. German Commander Heinrich Freiherr von Luttwitz requested the surrender of American forces at Bastogne. When General Anthony McAuliffe was informed of this he is most famously known for his reply, “Nuts”. A response which confused the Germans and non-American allies alike.
This patch has an attached airborne tab.
