USGI Humanitarian Daily Ration Meal

This is a USGI Humanitarian Daily Ration or HDR for short. Much like their standard MRE counter parts these meals are ready to eat from the bag and require no preparation. Unlike standard MREs these HDRs are not handed out to soldiers but civilians dealing with food security issues due to war, natural disasters or humanitarian crisis’s. HDR’s are free of major allergens, majority of meals have no animal products or animal by products. Minimal exceptions to animal by products are made, typically just in minimal amounts of dairy products. This makes the meal easy to hand out to anyone regardless of dietary restrictions.

These meals are intended to support moderately malnourished people, and are treated as a full days worth of food for those people. ITS ALL THEM BEANS. Meal entrees consist of mostly bean based dishes to ensure meals are high in protein while avoiding dietary restrictions. Rations are roughly 2200 calories and include 2 entrees, snacks, spreads and an accessory packet. HDR’s do not have a standardized menu like standard MREs but instead consist of any two entrees, snacks or spreads from the above gallery picture.

*HDR’s DO NOT come with a ration heater.*

*The HDR has a shorter shelf life than that of a standard USGI MRE. HDRs shelf life is roughly 36 months from date of manufacture when stored a 80 degrees Fahrenheit.*

These originally came in yellow packaging. This packaging was changed to orange due to the similarities of the yellow packaging to unexploded cluster munitions.
