USMC Extreme Cold Weather Outer Sleeping Bag

Description

This is an outer sleeping bag from the sleep system that is used by the US Marine Corps. Designed by Mountain Hardware, this bag is ready for harsh conditions and freezing temperatures. When combined with the standard 3 season bag, it can keep you warm overnight down to about 5 degrees. With the military Extended Cold Weather Clothing System (ECWCS) or other cold weather layers in addition to the three season bag, it can keep you warm down to about 12 below zero. Additionally, in combination other components like the bivvy, it can work in even colder conditions, although other specialty equipment is probably recommended in those circumstances. You can enter the bag and allow it to vent during the night with a two way zipper that runs along the center of the bag on the top half. This makes it easy to prevent overheating and sweating while inside the bag, which can be dangerous in cold temperatures.

The bag is made of a lightweight 30D ripstop material with a polyester fill. This fill allows it to dry quickly and keep you warm even when wet. The downside to synthetic fill is weight, but this bag is fairly light for a military cold weather sleeping bag at just over 3lbs. It is also less likely to lose its loft when compressed. This makes it better for hard use and long trips inside a backpack. Overall, this is a great option for trips in cold weather when you need a bag that won’t let you down when you need it most.
